September Overhaul
I think this is finally the "serious" revamp. The old design felt a little too fantasy-inspired and didn't reflect the tone I wanted for the site.
On the bright side we are finally getting LaTeX maths working as actual text through KaTeX instead of using the SVG image pipeline I had before. This should be a pretty big improvement in the long run, both for efficiency and for actually working with mathematical text properly. I had been meaning to do this for a while, so I am very happy to finally have it done.
There were a few other things added for serious readers. I added a series mechanism which allows me to arrange essays in a series or order when one essay builds on context and logical scaffolding of the other, a citation generation system with DOI and a publication notes disclaimer, and I separated the notes and bibliography. Basically, I am trying to make the academic side of the website feel more like an actual place for reading and research rather than just a collection of essays I dumped onto my personal website.
I also renamed the site to the much shorter "Ashmoreth". The old name was getting a bit cumbersome and might be misunderstood, and I think this one works better.
This has been one of those upgrades when every time I thought I was finished I'd find another thing that I wanted changed. But I think the website is finally starting to look and function the way I originally wanted. There are still things I want to improve, obviously, because apparently I am incapable of leaving anything alone, but at least this time I can say the upgrade is actually finished. ♡
